Base Species or Cultivar:
Philodendron Gloriosum
Cultivar Origin:
This cultivar was created through tissue culture. In the beginning the leaves would come out perfectly normal, however as the leaves grew larger they developed splits, tears, and mangled leaves. I thought it was because the leaves were bursting threw their petioles prematurely. I gave them more humidity, I cut them back, I did not know what was happening to them. I thought I had chosen a bad mother plant, until this happened, the double leaves. Now that they are fully established plants just about every other leaf comes out with doubled, unfurling beautifully like a mermaid's tail.
Name Origin:
Atarisans or the 'Mermaid' Gloriosum is a product of tissue culture. A mutation that changed the pattern of this velvet leaf philodendron. The double leaf phenomenon persists through propogation.
Growth Habit:
crawler
Leaf Blade:
double leaf, like a fish tail
Bloom and Fruit:
has not bloomed yet.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
double leaf like a mermaid's tail, persistent even when propagated.
