Base Species or Cultivar:
Cultivar Origin:
This hybrid was created through artificial pollination at E.F.G. Orchids in Deland, Florida.
Name Origin:
This name is a combination of the names of both parents. Verrucosum (Verru-), and Erubescens (-bescens).
Growth Habit:
This philodendron is a climbing variety.
Leaf Blade:
The largest specimen has leaves approximately 14 inches long, and 8 inches wide,
Bloom and Fruit:
The inflorescence will have a spathe, and a spadix/floral chamber like both of the parents. The fruit will resemble a cluster of berries formed from the inflorescence around the floral chamber, with a male spadix emerging from the fruit.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This new hybrid displays some of the colorful, and unique leaf patterns of the pollen parent Philodendron Verrucosum. Philodendron Verrubescens is very hardy like the seed parent Philodendron Erubescens, and also displays the same thick glossy leaves. Philodendron Verrubescens will be much easier to grow in cultivation than the pollen parent Philodendron Verrucosum, and appears to have a much higher resistance to disease and bug infestation.
