Base Species or Cultivar:
Steudnera colocasiifolia K.Koch
Cultivar Origin:
This cultivar was selected and then vegetatively propagated from the plants introduced from Malipo, SE Yunnan.
Name Origin:
The cultivar epithet "Baiheqiao" is romanized from the Chinese name "白河桥", meaning the bridge over white river. It is also a place name in SE Yunnan, the natural distribution area of this species. The name is also indicating the albino spathe, a distinguishing character of this cultivar.
Growth Habit:
Plant rhizomatous.
Leaf Blade:
Leaf blade ovate or obovate.
Bloom and Fruit:
Spathe slightly reflexed, whitish yellow, on both sides.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This cultivar has stable albino spathes, which are light green on the inside and light yellowish green on the outside (vs deep purple on the inside and orange on the outside in typical S. colocassifolia), and it may release strong lemon scent (which is common among Steudneras).
