Growth Habit:
Terrestrial to facultative epiphytic; moderately compact when juvenile, becoming more open with age, internodal length consistently compact, <1cm spacing; forming an upright to slightly spreading rosette.
Stout, approximately 2–4 cm in diameter; wider with maturation; internodes initially short, elongating modestly with maturity; nodes slightly prominent; cataphylls persistent, drying fibrous, medium brown.
Leaf Blade:
Leaves broadly cordate to suborbicular-cordate, 20–35 × 18–30 cm, subcoriaceous to coriaceous. Apex short-acuminate; base deeply cordate with rounded posterior lobes, slightly overlapping. Margins distinctly undulate - one of several defining significant features.
Petioles 25–45 cm, subterete to shallowly sulcate adaxially, green with consistent pink to reddish suffusion, most pronounced near the geniculum, petiolar attachment and in emergent growth. Geniculum distinctly swollen, pink to light red, green to light green in older material.
Venation strongly radial with 7–9 pairs of primary lateral veins, evenly spaced and sharply defined. Veins bright chartreuse to yellow-green, prominently contrasting with the lamina; raised abaxially and impressed to slightly raised adaxially. Abaxial surface pale olive to yellow-green in hardening foliage, dark green in hardened foliage, with a characteristic pink flush at the sinus/petiole junction. Adaxial surface finely velutinous, matte, with a soft, light-absorbing texture.
This plant as seedling, and juvenile division, exhibit narrower, more ovate-cordate blades, with reduced venation contrast that intensifies with maturity. The radial venation pattern is expressed early and remains stable through development. Self-seedling morphology to be determined, with developing infructescence currently held by the mother plant as of April 13th 2026.
New leaves emerge bronze to copper-red, often deeper red under higher light (~100ppfd) and cooler temperatures (~65-70F consistent), with lighter venation visible from emergence; petioles and geniculum pink to reddish. Leaves mature through olive tones to deep green adaxially while retaining lighter abaxial coloration.
Bloom and Fruit:
Peduncle erect to gently arching, equaling or exceeding the petiolar length.
Spathe narrowly lanceolate, approximately 6–10 cm, pale green-green striate, lightly undulate, held at a shallow angle to the spadix, not reflexed; texture thin and persistent into early fruit development.
Spadix slender, cylindrical, approximately 10–15 cm, slightly tapering; pale green at anthesis, becoming brighter green as ovaries develop; held forward to slightly pendent.
Berries densely arranged, prominently protruding; ripening from green to pink-red. Time from pollination to mature fruit approximately 80 days.
